Homeowners Update: New Neighbors

The real estate market has been a little crazy this year.  Despite the recent ups and downs, the numbers show that there has been a fairly steady growth of housing prices overall.  Experts predict that home prices will continue to grow in the coming months, but at a somewhat slower pace due to the anticipated rise in mortgage interest rates.  Even with interest rates above 4 percent, people are still eager to make a home buying purchase.  The demand for houses continues to rise as millennials begin the search for their first home.

With the housing turnover that’s taken place this summer, it’s likely that you have new neighbors.  One of the easiest ways to meet a new homeowner on your street is to welcome them with a housewarming gift that will make their transition a little more enjoyable.  Skip the knickknacks and store-bought cookies for something they will appreciate and use.

The stress of moving often sends people to the drive thru, or causes people to skip meals altogether.  Bring a hot meal in a resealable container to allow the new family a chance to eat a home-cooked meal without messy prep or clean up.

Most homeowners appreciate getting to know their new community.  Items that feature nearby historical sites, professional sports team mascots or even the state flower will make a friendly impact.  Stay away from large decorative items like wall hangings, especially if you are unsure of the homeowner’s personal style and taste.

Bring a little greenery into your new neighbor’s home with a potted plant that can be easily cared for, and eventually transitioned outside.   Perennial plants make a nice landscaping staple that will bring color to the yard without causing the homeowner any extra work.

Give the gift of scent to add ambience to any new home.  Whether essential oils or candles, opt for a clean and relaxing scent like eucalyptus or lavender to help create a sense of calm during what is likely a hectic time.
